Job Centre Plus

Client:

Department of Work & Pensions

Contractor:

KPS

M&E Value:

£8 Million

Completion Date:

January 2004

About The Project:

This project entailed the provision of both mechanical and electrical services to 14 sites across Surrey, Berkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire for the Department of Works and Pensions.

The aim was to upgrade the existing job centres enabling them to achieve the integration of job centres and social services under one roof.

Due to the nature of these buildings the works were carried out in a live environment with the public and staff having the use of the facilities at all times.

To ensure the daily operations of the job centres were not disrupted careful consideration had to be given to the existing services during the initial site survey and subsequent enabling works.  We worked closely with client as well as the I.T. Team as the I.T. rooms were enlarged to cater for new I.T. racks along with new air conditioning units to cope with the increase in heat gains.

All our site management and operatives attended a Department of Works and Pensions specific ‘passport to safety’ course before being allowed on site.

The Upgrade Installation Programme included:

  • Environmental Control of the Building
  • Public Health Installations
  • Communications Room Air Conditioning, Data and Electrical Services
  • Small Power and Data Wiring
  • General and Emergency Lighting
  • Fire and Intruder Alarm Systems
  • Partitioning and Joinery
  • Ceilings and floorings
  • Structural Steel Alterations
  • Re-decoration
